About
Dr. Ismael Cortés is a scholar and practitioner dedicated to addressing historical and structural discrimination through academic research and impactful policy work. Dr. Cortés has conducted research at prominent institutions, including the School of Critical Theory and Cultural Studies at the University of Nottingham, the Human Rights Institute Gregorio Peces-Barba at the University Carlos III of Madrid, the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Granada, and the Romani Studies Program at the Central European University in Budapest. Beyond academia, he has served as a policy analyst for leading Brussels-based think tanks, including the Open Society European Policy Institute and the Centre for European Policy Studies, contributing to policy frameworks aimed at combating systemic inequities. His political career includes serving as a Member of Parliament in the Congress of Deputies of Spain (2019–2023) and as a Senior Policy Analyst and Advisor in the European Parliament (2023–2024), where he championed legislation and initiatives targeting structural inequality. He also serves as an Associate Professor in the International Master’s Program in Peace, Conflicts, and Development Studies at the Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, shaping the next generation of scholars and practitioners committed to advancing social justice and equity on a global scale.
