Research grant Juri Kreuz receives Romani Rose-Fellowship
January 7, 2026
Starting January 1, 2026, Juri Kreuz will receive doctoral funding at the Research Center on Antigypsyism through the Romani Rose-Fellowship. Funded by the Manfred Lautenschläger-Foundation, this research grant supports outstanding scholars from European Union countries who are conducting research on the topic of antigypsyism.
Juri Kreuz is an educational scientist whose research focuses on critical education work on antigypsyism. His academic work combines qualitative social research with community-based, participatory approaches and a strong practical orientation.
As part of the Romani Rose-Fellowship, Juri Kreuz is currently preparing a doctoral project that builds on these considerations and examines artistic memory practices of Sinti and Roma. The focus is on methodological and ethical questions of participatory research as well as the scientific reflection of artistic forms of expression as forms of collective memory and knowledge.

Juri Kreuz studied educational science at Bielefeld University. In his master's thesis, “Epistemic Dilemmas in Antigypsyism Research: A Community-Based Qualitative Empirical Analysis,” he used qualitative interviews to examine areas of tension between scientific knowledge production, community perspectives, and historical power relations. He placed particular emphasis on issues of representation, terminology policy, and participation in antigypsyism research.
In addition to his academic work, Juri Kreuz has several years of professional experience as a state-certified educator in various fields of child and youth welfare, as a German as a foreign language/German as a second language teacher in adult education, and as a musician in artistic contexts
